Provision Is Already There

“He has already provided for you. In fact, it’s already there.”

“What do you mean by that, Pastor Steve?”

I was asked this recently by one of our new guests at our Café Outreach on a Saturday morning @ a Pizza Cafe. He had recently found himself homeless and was searching for answers. We hear this type of question quite often.

The Bible tells us that God has already blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3). Philippians 4:19 reminds us that God supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Physical provision is part of the New Covenant. Just because we do not see it or hold it in our hands does not mean He has not already provided it.

The issue is not God holding back. Often, it is us not receiving—or we are in the middle of the transfer stage where we cannot quit (Matthew 21:22; Mark 11:24).

As Christians, we are fighters. The Word says the just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11). I like to think of that as the just “fight” by faith. We fight by faith with the Sword of His Word. We continue in faith through prayer and the confession of His Word, refusing to quit (Revelation 12:11).

We activate His guidance within us, allowing the Holy Spirit to navigate us into His perfect will—His individual plan for each of us.

There was a time when I found myself constantly frustrated, searching for provision and answers. I vividly remember going through my second breakup and divorce. During that season, I went everywhere else looking for answers—to pastors, counselors, friends, and even her friends. Nothing worked.

Finally, one day I got alone with God. In the quiet, He spoke to my heart:

“You need to stop going everywhere else looking for answers and learn to read what I have already written on your heart.”

That was a word of wisdom in due season. Even today, it still echoes in my life.

The Lord truly lives and dwells within us. He sees the whole picture. He loves us infinitely. He is our Provider—the One who has already put things in place for us to discover.

Like me, you may have discovered that God can use the pain you are going through—or have gone through—to strengthen you for your purpose. Your pain can become your platform. What darkness meant for your fall, God will use to strengthen your spiritual stamina for what lies ahead.

Sometimes it is a struggle to reach the place where we taste and see His provision. But when we arrive at what He placed there from the beginning—what joy!

Years ago, the Holy Spirit gave me an analogy.

I used to be a cook in the Navy. I gave my life to Christ on May 31, 1992, on the Red Sea aboard the USS Jack Williams. My job was to run the officers’ dining facility and order food supplies. One of my responsibilities was making sure we had enough provision to supply 220 sailors.

It would have been dangerous to run out of food—who knows, I might have been thrown overboard!

I had to understand that provision is found in purpose.

I knew that after our ship passed through the Suez Canal in Egypt, a supply ship would be waiting for us—courtesy of Uncle Sam and the American taxpayers. All we had to do was follow the coordinates and pull alongside to receive the much-needed supplies.

Are you seeing it?

The same is true in our spiritual journey through life. The provision we desire and need is found in our purpose.

Through His Son, Jesus Christ, everything we need has already been provided. When Jesus cried, “It is finished,” salvation, provision, healing—everything—was purchased. It was an all-inclusive gift bought by His blood.

We cannot earn it. We cannot repay it. He simply did it.

Our reasonable response is to pull alongside Him in prayer and intimacy. To learn to read what He has already written on our hearts. To speak what His Word says. To listen for His still, small voice.

Often, it is His quiet coordinates that lead us to provision.

And that provision is always found in our purpose.

He placed it there just for you.
